The first Pineapple concert I remember attending was actually their first—Incubus at Bukit Kiara. Even until today, I remember how amazed I was by the scale of the production and how professional it looked. I later met Razman through some mutual friends, and the guy basically had me sold on his determination to bring quality music and shows to Malaysia for everyone to experience. Along with his brother Razlan, the two are basically the brains behind this year’s phenomenal Sunburst Festival.
Although Razman had been talking about the idea of a music festival for quite some years, it only became a reality last March. I dont think anyone had any idea of how big and how well it would turn out. Not that success was unexpected—the line up for the first Sunburst Festival was pretty much spot on, covering a wide range of different types of music. From funk to drum and bass, as well as everything else in between, Pineapple did a great job with the music.
The scale of the production was something else. The last time I went to a proper festival as big was probably in Australia. It was also a nice change to have a music event of that magnitude, something besides the regular three-day beachside basshead stints that we usually get here, cause it’s definitely something we need for the younger generation to experience in this country.
As far as I know, the two brothers are already busy planning the next Sunburst. I have no idea of the line up yet, but I’m sure it will probably be as grand and proper as the last one. I’m also sure the two brothers are going to build Sunburst and Pineapple Concerts into something big. Even bigger, I think, than they themselves imagined.
