Being in love with someone who doesn’t necessarily always reciprocate – that’s the clichéd analogy of life in KL.

It’s true, though. Our relationship with the city is fraught with frustration: the traffic, the weather, the oftentimes-questionable governance.

KLites, being Malaysian, tend to bemoan our discontent quite loudly – a defence mechanism to help us cope with how powerless we feel more often than not about actually being able to change things for the better. But the truth is we can do something – and we are.

What is I _ KL?

I _ KL is looking towards a Klang Valley we can be proud of and excited about.

It is an umbrella under which citizen-driven initiatives to improve the quality of life in the Valley may flourish.

Roadblock and traffic alerts. Community theatre. Street music. Heritage walks by amateur guides. T-shirts declaring what KL means to us. These are the sort of things we see I _ KL encompassing.

Why I _ KL?

We possess an undying affection for the Klang Valley, but our love is not unconditional.

We believe the city and its immediate environs can do – and deserve – better – and we believe that we, ordinary city-dwellers, can be the agents of positive change.

How Can
I Get Involved?

I _ KL’s current flagship project is KLue Plus 5 in which initiatives on how we can improve life in the Valley can compete for a modest RM2,000 grant. It also includes 24 Hour KL, a photo platform documenting the city, and our TwitterTee declarations of love.

But I _ KL is not KLue’s alone. The underscore, after all, is intentionally left blank for you to fill in. If you have an idea you want to try out, go ahead! Tell us about it; maybe we’ll be able to work together for a better future for the Valley that we call our home!
